First reading of Data-Driven Security by Jay Jacobs & Bob Rudis (Wiley 2014) has been completed by yours truly. Also yours truly is in the middle of doing an EdX course on data science and AZURE ML. These two ideas are now being juxtaposed and there is a lot of synergy appearing. For example: How about a suite of AZURE ML models that could be applied to the fire wall events of your servers? Just plug in your event log data and have an AZURE ML security model check for pattern like activity. (This could include your WebTrends’ or Google Analytic data). As I am creating, training, evaluating, these AZURE ML models; I will write about them in this blog. Originally I was looking at the big data science approach to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 underlying structured data; however, I now think that although that may be interesting, an improved use might be security.
